Net-zero commercial and community buildings
Although MAKAR is renowned for its high quality eco homes, we also have a strong record of delivering net-zero projects for commercial and community use through our sister company MAKAR Timber Engineering
Our eco-friendly commercial and community buildings will meet not just a net-zero standard, but potentially a carbon negative standard (dependent on factors such as usage, heating type and output form solar etc.). Our approach also makes particular sense when it needs to be demonstrated in a very tangible way that the building has excellent environmental credentials – so perhaps for a company or organisation with an ethos centered around sustainability.
Large scale net-zero commercial buildings constructed from timber
Over the last few years, we’ve taken on two very major net zero construction projects for companies operating large sawmills – one in the north of England and one in Moray, Scotland. These very substantial buildings use locally sourced timber throughout, with the main components constructed in our workshop and then transported to site for assembly.
Examples of net-zero commercial and community buildings we can deliver
Our experience in net zero and carbon negative commercial and community buildings is considerable, and along with large building for sawmills a notable example is the Gale Centre in Gairloch, Wester Ross – which is Passiv Haus Certified. Going forward and given the government targets for net-zero, we see the MAKAR approach being used for more applications as diverse as distilleries, visitor centres, school buildings and small scale office buildings. We’ve recently completed a very large project for Logie Sawmill, so here are a selection of images taken at different stages to give a sense of the scale and quality of the building
