We are thrilled to share that MAKAR have won this prestigious Innovation in Sustainable Construction and Design Award for our Paradigm Prototype Home. It is brilliant to see this affordable home design receive recognition from the Herald Judges, demonstrating what can be achieved with Scottish homegrown timber, offsite construction, rapid delivery, and high levels of energy performance. This property was also designed with a real focus on tackling fuel poverty.
A fantastic result for the team and a great example of what Scottish innovation and sustainable construction can achieve.

We are thrilled that MAKAR has won the Building Performance Pioneer award at the 2026 Offsite Awards. Recognising outstanding achievement in offsite and modern methods of construction, it is one of the most prestigious industry awards in the UK.🎉
We are proud that the Paradigm Prototype Affordable Home was chosen by the @OffsiteAwards judges as this year's best example of building performance, making a tangible difference in lowering the overall environmental impact, and embedding circular economy principles from the outset.
FINALIST - Pioneer Award - Structural Timber Awards 2026
We are delighted to be shortlisted for The Pioneer Award by the Structural Timber Association Ltd (STA), which recognises those pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in structural timber in the UK.
Earlier this year, we were proud to achieve STA Assure Gold, their highest level of recognition for exceptionally high standards of quality and compliance in timber construction throughout the organisation. This shortlisting further recognises the MAKAR team's achievement in creating the Paradigm Home: an offsite Scottish timber solution to the UK's housing and climate emergencies, delivering high-performing, healthy homes that are affordable to buy and run.

FINALIST - Rural Property Of The Year- Helping it Happen Awards 2026
We are over the moon that our Paradigm Home prototype is a finalist in the Rural Property Category, for these awards run by Scottish Land and Estates!
We have been building timber-rich eco-homes for over 20 years, and last year we pivoted to offer affordable Optima Homes, alongside our Signature Range. These family homes are designed to be affordable and low carbon to build and run, reducing fuel poverty and utilising Scotland's timber resource. Manufactured and assembled in one week each, they are also designed to be rapidly deployable across rural and island communities, offering a credible, affordable solution to Scotland's rural housing emergency.

FINALIST - Innovation Award and Best Marketing Campaign - Highland Business Awards 2026
Our team have worked hard to develop high-performing homes and a model that prioritises energy efficiency and a ‘breathing wall’ system, ensuring those most vulnerable are protected from the risks of damp, mould, and fuel poverty.
We believe this represents a step-change in home design and manufacture by using natural, breathable materials in offsite construction, following a Passivhaus approach, and working with Scottish timber.

This award celebrates businesses leading the way with creative thinking, bold ideas, and innovative solutions across the Highlands. In particular, this shortlisting recognises MAKAR’s approach to home building, which represents a fundamental shift from traditional construction to precision manufacturing.
MAKAR’s innovative approach has positioned us as a leader in Net Zero healthy homes. A precision manufacturing system and modular approach have achieved substantial cost reductions by eliminating waste, streamlining assembly processes, and enabling repeatable and scalable panel production.
FINALIST - Manufacturer of the Year - Structural Timber Awards 2025
MAKAR have been shortlisted for our Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) approach to building affordable homes, showcasing our innovative natural structural insulated panels (n‑SIP) and Fabric First approach. These homes demonstrate how Scotland can utilise local natural materials in just-in-time precision manufacturing to build Net Zero homes.
